News of the Absurd

Every now and again I am absolutely amazed at things that people do, our government does, and/or the news reports on. Today is no different. Looking at the information in the news today it just flabbergasts me that these things are issues. From today’s headlines:
1. Nelson Mandela has the same status as [...]

aka How I Admitted That I Seriously Watch Too Much TV.
I know that I have no life, I know that there are other things that I can do with my time that would keep me from being such a slacker. But I have long had a serious addiction to all things that suspend reality. [...]

I really am.
Friday, leaving work, I had to bang on the locked door of the office to get back in. I had forgotten to get the key to the company car.
Saturday, while I have already confessed to not being a morning person, I left for work and then had to turn around and go [...]

Ineptitude

There are some things that really irritate me. I know that there are many times I use colloquialisms or slang in poor context, and as a former grammar major, I apologize. Yet there are things that just irritate the tar out of me. Using the wrong word because spell check thought it [...]

I’m sitting in my recliner, typing away, and there is the most fantastic thunderstorm going on outside.  Only there is no rain.  Lightning, rumbling, heavy claps of thunder, and not a drop of water anywhere.  Still kind of cool, though!  Plus it made the temperature drop by several degrees, which I always like!  The thunder [...]

There goes the weekend

Remember that to do list that I had from last weekend?  Yeah, well, a lot of it was going to carry over to this weekend.  I had plans to spend time on Saturday with H because her kids were with their dad, and the resuming of Sunday night dinner (the girls gather here and we [...]

There is currently not one but two wars going on, a presidential election coming up, a country that is in the midst of a recession, and these are the three things that I found in the news today:
1. Smurfs are three apples tall, yet they live in mushrooms.  What’s up with that?
2. Police in Congo [...]

Student Politics

Did you hear about this? Two high school students found out that Barack Obama was going to be at a diner across the street from their high school so they ran out to try and meet him, ask him some questions. What do they get for their efforts?
A signed excuse slip by Barack [...]

Poor Puppy/Scientology

What do these two things have in common?
Absolutely nothing.
I was logging into my WordPress account and saw the name Jason Beghe.  I have always liked him as an actor, so I clicked on the site.  Wow.  It’s an 8 part interview about how he got sucked into Scientology and why he left the organization.  To [...]

My dog has OCD

So I have a mutt. A combo of chocolate lab and husky, mostly, with a bit of a pit bull thrown in. We know her mom was a pure chocolate lab, we think her dad was a neighborhood runt. And my dog has OCD.
She has a lick granuloma on her right paw. [...]

Rainy Day Sunday

Around 2am, we heard thunder. I had to stop and think about it because, well, we haven’t had a decent rainstorm in quite awhile much less a thunderstorm. It is now 8pm and it’s still raining. It’s the kind of day that makes you want to stay in, lounge around in sweatpants, [...]

Confessions of a homebody

Sometimes I feel like I am betraying my generation.
I am a single thirty-something woman.  I have friends that want to meet after work for happy hour, which I enjoy but usually am too brain dead to participate.  In fact I have spent my Friday evening thus far in the company of ten people older than [...]

I really do have things to do in my life, truly I do. Yet I find myself sitting down each night, watching TV. And not just TV, but three or four commercial-free episodes that are on TV DVDs. Ever since I was a kid, books, music, movies, stories, TV–these are the things [...]

April 16th has a lot of meaning for me. My great-grandmother was born on April 16, 1886. She died in September, 1986. Let me tell you that was one big cake we had that April. So for all my life, I always thought of my great-grandmother on the day after my [...]
